Analysis of Song Lyrics

Change Persona - Working Progress

{Verse}
I saw you walking home in the dark
Are you thinking about me?
You stand in that same spot everyday
Sweating tears of joy running down my face

{Chorus}
But you're a working progress
I don't like to be ignored
But it'll take me time to progress but
I'll just lay here on the floor

{Verse}
I lay on my bed every night
Start to pray that I'll get through
I always wind up thinking about you
My girlfriend's freaking out, what should I do?

{Chorus}
But you're a working progress
I don't like to be ignored
It'll take me time to progress but
I'll just lay here on the floor

{Solo}

{Chorus x2}
But you're a working progress
I don't like to be ignored
It'll take me time to progress but
I'll just lay here on the floor

------------------------------------------Analysis---------------------------------------------

Some of the lines from the song have been acted out, which relates to the song. Others have been band performance clips to give a sense of power to certain parts of the song, or to emphasise certain lines and words.

'I saw you walking home in the dark'
The actor looks back nervously, as if she thinks she's being followed.

'Are you think about me?'
The lead singer smiles at the camera, instigating that he's happy that the main actor may be thinking about him.

'You stand in that same spot everyday'
The lead singer is sitting on a wall, and looking into the distance, as if looking at the main actor. The camera then cross dissolves to the girl walking.

'Sweating tears of joy running down my face'
A single light from a lamp post is shown, giving unique camera shots to a weird line.

'But you're a working progress
I don't like to be ignored
It'll take me time to progress but
I'll just lay here on the floor'
Entirely band performance as this is trying to emphasise the power of the chorus.

'I sit on my bed every night
Start to pray that I'll get through
I always wind up thinking about you
My girlfriend's freaking out, what should I do?'
The lead singer sings on the wall for the first line, where you can see him emphasising the particular line to show his desperation.
The second and third line show a drug deal taking place, and the lead singer then pushes them out of the way for the girl to walk past safely. This is to show how much he cares for this girl that he'd put himself in danger for her.
The third and fourth line is to also emphasise the importance of the line by putting emotion into the singing. It is also used to tell more of the story and the build up to the chorus.

'But you're a working progress
I don't like to be ignored
But it'll take me time to progress but
I'll just lay here on the floor'

The second chorus is all band performance to once again give the chorus a sense of power.

{Last Two Choruses}

The last two choruses sum up the narrative. It basically fits as the chorus is a powerful part of the song, and what is shown is the main actor going off the rails and thinking of committing suicide, but the lead singer pulls her back and away from her death from falling from a high drop. As the last chord in the last chorus rings out, the actor turns around but the lead singer has dissapeared. Nothing has shown clearly who or what has pulled her away, but has left the main actor smiling.
